Defending MSC Champions Lady Wildcats Face Campbellsville/ Georgetown Winner in MSC Semi-finals on Sunday
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -The Bethel Lady Wildcats captured their first ever MSC Tournament title last year and they will attempt to defend that championship beginning at noon on Sunday in Bowling Green.
The No. 3 Cats will meet either No. 5 Campbellsville or (RV) Georgetown. Those teams will meet in the quarterfinals on Friday.
In the tightly bunched conference standings, the conference tiebreaker was used twice to determine the tournament seeds.
Bethel (Tenn.) and Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) shared the regular-season championship during the season with 9-3 conference records. Campbellsville (Ky.) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) tied for third in the standings with 7-5 marks.
In both times, the teams split during the regular season, eliminating the first tiebreaker -- head-to-head competition.
The second tiebreaker is the record against the next-highest team in the standings. To break the first-place tie, the tie for third place must be broken first. According to the tiebreaker policy, the combined records of the teams tied for third place against the teams tied for first place are used.
Lindsey Wilson's record against Bethel and Freed-Hardeman during the season is 2-2, while Campbellsville's record against Bethel and Freed-Hardeman is 1-3. With a better record, Lindsey Wilson earns the No. 3 seed, while Campbellsville is the No. 4 seed.
With the third and fourth seeds set, Bethel earns the top seed based on the Wildcats' 2-0 season record against Lindsey Wilson, compared to Freed-Hardeman's 0-2 record against the Blue Raiders.
Georgetown (Ky.) is the No. 5 seed, Cumberlands (Ky.) is the No. 6 seed, and Cumberland (Tenn.) is the No. 7 seed.
Bethel (23-4, 9-3 in the MSC) earns the bye into the semifinals on Sunday, March 1.
The tournament begins at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday, February 27, as Campbellsville (22-6, 7-5) meets Georgetown (21-7, 6-6) in the first quarterfinal. No. 2-seed Freed-Hardeman (24-3, 9-3) faces Cumberland (15-13, 1-11) at 5 p.m. CT, and third-seed Lindsey Wilson (21-7, 7-5) plays Cumberlands (18-10, 3-9) at 7:30 p.m. CT in the nightcap.
The Freed-Hardeman-Cumberland winner meets the Lindsey Wilson-Cumberlands winner at 2:30 p.m. CT in the final semifinal.
The Lady Wildcats split their two regular season games with Campbellsville with both winning the respective road games. Bethel lost at Georgetown but beat the Tigers in McKenzie.
The Lady Cats average 74.2 and yield 59.7 points per game.
Micah Hart leads the Cats and the league in scoring at 18.8 points per game. She averages over 20 points a game versus league opponents. Micah leads the Cats in assists (58), steals (56), and made free throws (77-85).
Mikee Buchanan leads the Cats in made three-pointers (70) and averages 15.5 points per game.
Madison Hart averages 13.8 points per outing.
The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT on Monday, March 2.
