Lady Cats Open Tennis Season with 4-1 Victory over Milligan

PULASKI, Tenn. - The Bethel Lady Wildcats kicked off their 2026 campaign in strong fashion Friday afternoon, earning a 4-1 season-opening victory over Milligan University.

Competing with energy and composure from the first serve, Bethel set the tone early in doubles play and carried that momentum into singles to secure the win.

Strong Start in Doubles

Bethel claimed two of the three doubles matches to take control of the contest.

At No. 1 doubles, Sofia Canto Hurtado and Cloe Casado delivered a commanding 6-1 win, dictating play from the baseline and controlling the net throughout.

Claudia Gonzalez Pastrana and Camila Barragan followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles, giving the Lady Cats the crucial doubles point and early momentum.

Singles Seals the Match

The Lady Cats continued their strong play in singles competition, picking up three decisive wins to clinch the match.

At No. 2 singles, Sofia Canto Hurtado was nearly flawless in a dominant 6-0, 6-0 performance. Giada Meneguzzo matched that intensity at No. 6, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Cloe Casado added the clinching point at No. 4 singles with a hard-fought 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 win, showing poise in a tight first-set tiebreak before closing strong in the second.

Coach's Comments

Head coach Derrick Hubble was pleased with how his squad opened the spring slate.

"I was really proud of the way the girls competed from top to bottom," Hubble said. "We emphasized starting fast in doubles and carrying that energy into singles, and they did exactly that. It's always important to get that first win of the season, and I thought we showed great focus and toughness throughout the lineup."

With a 4-1 victory to open the year, the Lady Cats set a confident tone for the 2026 season and will look to build on that momentum in the matches ahead.
