Lady Cats Battle No. 2 Lindsey Wilson College, Come Up Just Short
MCKENZIE, Tenn. — The Bethel Lady Cats delivered a hard-fought effort Saturday afternoon but fell 6-1 to No. 2 Lindsey Wilson at the Dr. Deborah Thompson Tennis Complex.
Facing one of the top-ranked teams in the country, Bethel competed with determination and confidence from start to finish, highlighted by a dominant singles victory and a strong overall mindset throughout the lineup.
In doubles action, the Blue Raiders claimed the early advantage, taking all three courts. Sofia Canto and Cloe Casado battled at No. 1 doubles, while Lavinia Anais Karadza and Paula Milla Becerra competed at No. 2. Camila Barragan Canas and Claudia Gonzalez Pastrana rounded out doubles play at the No. 3 position.
The Lady Cats found their breakthrough in singles. At No. 2 singles, Sofia Canto delivered an impressive performance, defeating Martina Cortal in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to secure Bethel's lone point of the afternoon. Canto controlled rallies from the baseline and played with poise against elite competition.
Camila Barragan Canas competed at the top singles position, while Karadza, Casado, Giada Ngoc Meneguzzo, and Paula Milla Becerra each faced tough matchups against a deep Lindsey Wilson squad. Though the final score favored the visitors, Bethel continued to fight on every court.
Head Coach Derrick Hubble was extremely encouraged by his team's approach.
"I'm super pleased with our effort and our mindset today," Hubble said. "When you play the No. 2 team in the country, you can't back down, and our girls didn't. We competed with belief, energy, and toughness from the first serve to the last point. Matches like this prepare us for what's ahead, and if we keep this mentality, we're going to continue to improve."
The Lady Cats will look to build on Saturday's performance as they move forward in the spring season.
