Men’s Soccer Beats Cumberlands (KY) on Senior Night
MCKENZIE, Tenn. -The No. 18 Bethel Wildcats closed out their regular season against No. 6 the University of the Cumberlands Saturday night.
Seniors Mohamed Benguellal, Horace Avila Jr., Sa-jar Blair, Gregory Cousins, Roberto Rangel, Nelson Bundren, Juan Pablo Garcia were honored in ceremonies before the game.
The Cats did their part with a 4-1 victory over the Patriots.
After UC took a 1-nil lead in the first period the Wildcats answered with two scores and took a 2-1 lead inro the break. Ishmael Fuseini scored to tie the game. Souleymane Balde was credited with the assist. In the second period, Balde gave the Cats the lead after an assist from Gregory Cousins. Cousins gave the Wildcats a 3-1 margin after an assist from Balde. Horace Avila, with an assist from Cousins completed the scoring with a late goal.
Bethel had a 16-9 advantage in shots and a 15-5 margin in shots on goal.
Diego Camargo had three saves for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats moved to 9-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the league.
The Patriots are 8-4-4 and 5-1. Despite the loss, the Pats won the MSC regular season championship.
Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Bracket
Cumberlands (Ky.) is the No. 1 seed in the 2025 Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, conference officials announced on Saturday.
The Patriots claimed the regular-season title and a bye into the tournament semifinals after finishing with a conference-best 15 points in the MSC Men's Soccer Table.
Bethel (Tenn.) is the No. 2 seed with 13 points and will host Georgetown (Ky.) in a quarterfinal match. No. 3-seed Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) hosts sixth-seeded Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.), while fourth-seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) hosts fifth-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.)
Quarterfinal action is slated for October 29-31. Days and times will be announced on Monday. Semifinals are scheduled for November 5-7, with the championship game slated for November 11. All games will be played at the higher seed.
The winner of the tournament earns the conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Championships in November.
